I’ve since changed up the lore so that Layla despises Jayden just as much as Jayden despises Layla, but the artwork still serves its purpose of fleshing out Jayden’s character. As the name of this ending implies, every other playable character has either been indoctrinated into Layla’s cult or killed. Despite Jayden’s best efforts to kill Layla, she has taken away every single person Jayden could call an ally during their shared nightmare, including his best friend Christian. Jayden has completely lost all sense of self-preservation. He doesn’t care about hiding her body, trying to escape jail time, or even making it out of the college alive. He is going to make Layla suffer in her final moments, survival be damned. Ironically so, it was Layla herself who gave Jayden the strength to kill. I’ve updated the lore: Jayden was originally part of Layla’s cult during the first year of its operation and only left after killing a student that had Layla pinned (back then Jayden and Layla were best friends, which explains Jayden’s willingness to kill for her back then). We can see Layla’s influence on Jayden by the blackness that permeates through his heart and the side of his face. Layla corrupted Jayden back then when she forced him into that impossible situation. It left Jayden completely traumatized and extremely self-loathing, but it also made Jayden comfortable with the idea of taking a life. But now it’s time for it all to come to a close. In killing Layla, Jayden can rest easy knowing he stopped the corruption at its source and saved hundreds of young adults. To really emphasize Jayden’s uncontrollable fury during this ending, it is the only ending in which Layla is guaranteed to die. In every other ending, failing enough QTEs during the final scene will result in all the remaining playable characters dying and Layla getting away scot-free. In this ending, Jayden will always survive every single missed QTE and will only expire after Layla has been thoroughly stamped out. Another detail worth noting before finishing this sketchbook is the lack of burn marks on Layla (remember the burns she sustained from the cabin fire). This is because, in other endings where Christian survives, it is possible for Jayden to understand, but still villainize, Layla for her crimes (that is until Layla drops the bombshell that is the plot twist of her backstory, but that’s for another time). With all reason gone, Jayden is unable to see what led Layla down the path she walked, and is thus blind to her burn marks. All Jayden sees is evil, and it is his job to kill it.
