Conceptual Seat Design (A) Pivoted Seat Base The seat pan is mounted on a gimbal or hinge system (front–back and side–side). Pivot point is above the combined center of mass Effect: During braking → seat tilts slightly backward During acceleration → seat tilts forward During turning → seat tilts inward This keeps the passenger balanced relative to gravity. (B) Weighted Underslung Mechanism A mass is attached below the seat pan (like the bottom weight in a self-leveling cup). The weight always tries to hang vertically. Result: When the bus jerks or turns, the weight generates a corrective torque. The seat automatically returns to a neutral position. 3. Motion Damping (Very Important) A free-moving seat would feel unsafe. So add damping, just like shock absorbers. Options: Hydraulic dampers Viscoelastic rubber bushings Magnetic eddy current dampers Purpose: Prevent oscillations Smooth motion Slow response for comfort
