One sunny afternoon in the savanna, a naughty duck waddled up to a waterhole, quacking loudly and splashing everywhere. The animals nearby were trying to nap, but the duck just wouldn’t stop. Suddenly, out of the tall grass came a hungry lion, licking his lips. “Who dares disturb my nap and my stomach?” he roared. The duck puffed up his feathers and quacked, “Keep your paws off, furball! This is my waterhole!” The lion growled, “Oh really? Then maybe you’ll make a fine lunch instead.” The duck thought fast. “You could eat me,” he said, “but I’m just skin and feathers. If you let me go, I’ll lead you to a whole flock of fat geese down the river!” The lion’s eyes gleamed. “Deal!” he said, licking his chops. So they set off together — but halfway there, the duck flapped up into a tree and shouted, “Hope you like quackers, because you’ve been pranked!” The lion roared in fury, jumped into the water to chase him — and got stuck in the mud. The duck laughed so hard he fell off his branch into the water, splashing the lion even more. And from that day on, every time the lion came to drink, the duck made sure to splash extra loud.
