Monument with central obelisk, measuring 35ft 6in high and 3ft 9in wide. on a base of with drafted margins, 20 ft high and spanning 15 sqft. The base includes composite moldings at the pedestal level, upward-sloping sides leading to egg-and-dart moldings and triangular pediments on all 4 faces. top 4 platforms projecting from the base are statues, each 5 feet 9 inches tall, of Confederate soldiers from the infantry, cavalry, artillery, & navy branches in at rest poses. The obelisk bears inscriptions 1861–1865 midway up, and a capital with abstracted triglyphs, projecting scallops, and a 5 pointed star pyramid at the apex, flanked by smaller stars on each side. inscription on monument's pedestal To Our Confederate Dead aligns with the structure's intent. Encircling the obelisk at mid-height are the dates 1861, 1862, 1863, 1864, & 1865, inscribed on its 4 sides, with 1865 directly below 1861. A statue of a Confederate sailor, positioned on the east-facing platform atop the pedestal.
