Roman auxiliary fort castrum, Dacia frontier province, 2nd century AD. Rectangular walled military camp 150 meters long by 130 meters wide seen from slightly elevated angle to show full layout. Stone perimeter wall 4.5 meters tall and 1.5 meters thick made of rough-cut stone blocks, warm grey-beige color. Four gateway entrances, one on each side, each with two flanking square stone towers 8 meters tall with wooden gate doors. Rounded corner towers projecting slightly outward. Inside the walls: a central headquarters building (principia) with a courtyard, a commander's residence, rows of long narrow barrack buildings along the interior walls, two rectangular granary buildings. Surrounding the outside of the walls is a defensive ditch. Stone and timber construction, weathered ancient Roman military architecture. Dusty sandy ground inside and outside.
