The pediatric KAFO orthosis for Blount's disease correction consists of three separate segments: a thigh and lower leg cuff, and a flat-soled foot orthosis. Each segment is secured with adjustable Velcro straps. Two rigid guides run along the lateral (outer) side of the lower leg, from the thigh segment to the foot segment, passing through the knee. These guides define the correction vector, creating a valgus force to counteract varus deformity. The guides incorporate a small adjustable hinge at the knee. Made of lightweight medical plastic, it has a soft inner lining and straps with Velcro fasteners. The orthosis is shown on a child's right leg.
