This 3D animation shows Rutherford’s alpha-particle experiment. Alpha particles move toward a thin gold foil. Most particles pass straight through, some are deflected, and a few bounce back. This proves that the atom is mostly empty space with a small, dense, positively charged nucleus at the center.
